Anyway, that's all the news I have for now. So you probably all know already, but the release was delayed! I'm so sorry about that, but if we're fishing for excuses, I DID just finish my exams, and everyone was so drained and adverse to this chapter that we couldn't bring ourselves to complete it in time (the only ones who are exempt from being lumped together with us slackers areacide and sarasa because they're amazing and were finished weeks in advance! <3) XD I mean seriously, when you read this chapter you WILL understand our pain. Four double spreads (URGH BANE OF EVERY EDITOR'S EXISTENCE!!!), SFX littered on almost every page, not to mention all the extra stuff you have to put in given this is the start of a new volume! XD
Okay, I'll stop whining now. It's time for volume 21 to shine with chapter 107 (named after Kassai by Chiami Naoki)! And yes, we are nearing the close of the Minor Heat arc, one more chapter after this and you'll have to say farewell to the Summer B gang! :O

Welcome back Hana! I knew you weren’t dead! And LOL I’m so happy I’m not a child anymore. \o/ I mean she ate it! She “slurped” up that worm. GOSH. She’s so cute, yet so annoying with all the sounds she makes (which I had to edit!). Anyway I’m happy to have Hana back. *.*

Chapter catchphrase: “SFX and hair and two-page spreads.”
Personal notes: Laziness, a natural tendency to procrastinate, sleep deprivation and offline distractions created something of a perfect storm which kept me away from editing for a while, leading to me doing most of the work on the eve of, and well past, the deadline set for this release. Even so, this also meant the quality of my work has been somewhat lacking this time, leaving more on the shoulders of our wonderful Pandaranda in order to clean up after me. Sorry about all that.
Chapter notes: SHE LIVES!!! What? HOW? What happened? Despite the author not being shy of killing off her characters (this seems to be something of a staple of this series), I always thought doing away with Hana was a bit premature. Of course, I may be biased since she’s one of my favourite characters in this series, but still… I’m dancing for joy right now (metaphorically). Can’t wait for the next chapter in which she is hit by one of the missiles we keep hearing so much about. Hmm… what are the odds of that?
TLDR: I did make an effort to make the notes a bit more compact this time.

Okay, just to set the record straight, if anyone is entirely dubious over HOW Hana survived, well if you know anything about physiology, the mammalian dive reflex and how cryogenics work, you would know that Hana surviving her ordeal is way more possible than cryogenically freezing the Seeders for tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of years (Tamura left plenty of hints; did you wonder why they kept going on about how cold the water was? And even Ayu dropped a really huge hint about the water's temperature and Hana's possible survival). XD
A quick physiology lesson: basically when you submerse your face in water (particularly cold water), your body triggers the dive reflex where your entire body slows down (uses less oxygen), and all oxygen is channelled to your brain to try delay the onset of permanent brain damage (pretty much what kills you when you drown). Couple that with extreme cold temperatures, in which cells use up oxygen a whole lot slower (the basis of all cryogenics), and you get people who have actually survived after being submerged for over an hour! :O This is just the simple version, if you want more details you should google cryogenics, mammalian dive reflex and surviving drowning in cold water (here's a good starting point: http://www.scuba-doc.com/hypoth.htm). :3 Of course there's a thin line between surviving and drowning, and there are all sorts of other factors to consider like hypothermia, ischemic heart disease etc., so don't expect to definitely survive if you fall into cold water and don't get out in a timely fashion! xD

As I said, it contains two major spoilers, so if you don't want to be spoiled...don't look at it until after you've read the chapter released today or all of volume 21 at least. :3

Yay, I really love the cover for 22 too!! It's probably jumped up to be my favourite (especially after seeing who's on the back!). xD Well, closely rivalled by 20 of course. :3

It's like a really cool ride at a theme park or something XD And yes, Hana does have so many adorable expressions on her face this chapter. I like looking through without focusing on any of the words, just to pay attention to how great Hana acts, lol.
Well, we saw her get to shore before the chibi-effect, so I didn't think it was a dream. I just thought it was really odd, but also completely awesome :D

Date: 2012-06-20 07:43 pm (UTC)Actually when I first saw the raw version of this chapter, I thought that she lost her memories and I was like "No way, not that boring thing!!!", but luckily she was just being... alive, I guess. ^^ I was a very cute chapter, espcially if you know how things will turn out. XD
About the current Japanese chapters (with no sppoilers of course), it seems like the current arc is finishing and maybe the next one will focus on the Summer B team again. *fingers crossed*

Perhaps...I've read the most recent chapter and I suppose the very end of the chapter appeared like the POV was going to switch again (though it certainly didn't look like the focus was going back to Summer B! XD). I'm not sure whether the arc will actually change or whether the main crew of Awakening Insects are going to meet up with the person who appeared at the end. :O
Personally I don't want the POV to go back to Summer B just yet, I want to learn more about the other teams, and I would love to see more of Kaname too. :3 Of course I also want the thing at the end of Minor Heat to be resolved, but after translating 4 and a half volumes of Summer B arc...I'm not ready to go back to them just yet! XD

Date: 2012-07-04 12:44 pm (UTC)i caught the low-temp references while hana was in the cave, but expected the falls to spit her out in like, less than an hour? 90 minutes? long enough that no one could hope to dive for her, but still within the times i've read about in similar articles. .... .... but days spent inside a magical healing jellyfish swarm works as well, i guess. (；=ω=)
and when she woke up acting strangely instinctively, like a wild animal, i was so worried
