[scanlation] 7 Seeds Volume 22 Chapter 114
Ah, the dreamwidth site is down so you might not see this post for a while! XD This is totally out of my hands, but sorry about that... ^^;;
Anywho, not long after I released last week's chapter, my October issues for the Flowers and Cocohana mags came, along with some lovely news! If you follow our Twitter, you'll know this news already, but it seems like Shogakukan is celebrating their 90th anniversary soon, and Tamura-sensei is taking part by releasing a new special 'Flower Comics Masterpieces' anthology called Seimei no Netsuryo (The Heat of Life)! Apparently the theme will be things that Tamura-sensei does best, making emotionally destroying stories full of the passion and pains of life, with characters who must struggle against despair and great adversity, and so on. Supposedly a gallery full of her magazine colour inserts will be included as well (I'm guessing of all her work up to date?). It'll also come with a special story and artbook, called Pulse - The Battles of BASARA/7SEEDS, that'll include an interview of Tamura-sensei talking about the two series, as well as being packed with coloured artwork and extra stuff! :D Ouu I'm so excited!! I believe it will be coming out sometime January 2013. ^_^ Also, Shinohara Chie (Red River) and Watanabe Taeko (Kaze Hikaru) will be doing their own Flower Comics Masterpieces thing, for those of you who are also fans of them! :D
Aside from that, I also posted some preview pics of Tamura's new short story (meaning each chapter is only about 8 pages long) series, Iromen, which is a splice of life josei comedy. It's really cute (and packed full of ikemen like Akagi, our resident Shuri/Arashi/Ango look-a-like), and I'm enjoying it so far! ^_^ I'll be happy to scanlate it, but I'll probably wait until the volumes are released because it's a bit expensive to buy a whole magazine each month just for 8 pages! xD
Whee lots of great news this week, huh? :DD Anyway, after all that excitement, it's time for chapter 114!! (BTW
azou8506 has come back! Yay!!! :D)

Well this is my return chapter so I kind of did some dumb things when I was doing my cleaning/editing duties XD. But I’m glad I am back on board, even though I now have much less time on my hand.
So what about the chapter itself? Well it pretty much sums up why I like 7 seeds: realism. We get to realize that even though X hundreds of years have passed the only people that could survive are those who were born in the right place and where able to make the right social connection. So, to me it’s another great chapter.

Oh poor Fujiko-chan...If you’re going to let your mind wonder like that you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment in the looks department. Though, considering the small and rapidly diminishing pool of candidates, I don’t think she can afford to be very picky. They are all supposed to be the genetic cream of the crop after all.
And on page 35 we have a very good example of the literal dying screams of an entire ecosystem destroyed by the (re)introduction of a different species which wreaks havoc on the ecological balance. Considering the rate at which they can grow, all those different types of fungus spores let loose in such a damp and rich in nutrients environment will probably just explode overnight. Bon apetit guys and enjoy it while it lasts.

Eeee, I love Chisa!! XD I wasn't as shocked as Hana and Fujiko for the things she said because I've always thought that sort of thing was a given in the world too (life's unfair like that)! Call me a cynic, but I just didn't believe that the Seeders were chosen by random either, and Chisa has affirmed my suspicions. xP
I also like how she put it out there that Takashi was hard-working man with ideals and principles. I know there are a lot of people who hate him, or don't feel that he and Kaname and all the others who were in charge of Summer A should be forgiven, but I've always...not agreed with what they did, but understood their perspective, I guess. ^^;; Like I admire their dedication to their cause, even if some parts of it were misguided. I just don't think they meant to wrong anyone (even though they ended up doing that...). ^^;; Maybe I just like to play the devil's advocate and take the side of the least loved! XD Heh.

Hana has spotted an unusual man-made structure, could this be a supplies shelter, or perhaps another mysterious underground shelter like Ryugu...?!

(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)I really like how we get a different perspective from Chisa, we understood the pain of Summer A, yet this is real world.
And Fujiko is going on with her idealization of people, first Natsu, now Ban. Another big yay for the girly chapter!

*nods* It's nice how Tamura-sensei shows you all sides of the argument, like when you see it from Summer A's perspective, it really is totally unfair and you feel angry for their sake. But when you look at it from the perspective of the real world, not from their hot-house life, it's still unfair but it's not surprising either. xD
Haha right! I love Fujiko's fantasies, they're so cute! XD I can't wait for her to meet those two now. :3 Though I don't think she'll be that disappointed because they're both pretty cool characters in their own rights. :)
Omen, eh?
(Anonymous) 2012-09-24 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)My personal highlights were Fujiko imagining Ban-chans good looks (aww, I bet once they get together, she'll proceed immediately to style him in a completely dazzling way and bring out his unknown well-refined features!! Can't wait to get to see his face finally! :p)
and scary Chisa: "I'll gladly introduce them to the world of nepotism..." :o Wahaha!! Didn't think Chisa were the daughter of some mafia-like family, she sure doesn't give off that feeling... but it was really the very first time I thought that Chisa had a sort of scary side to her...
And to top it off, it's revealed that Akio was actually Chisa's fiancee... but really, Oran/Ran (which name is now correct? There were several variations of her name so far...?) suits Akio much better than Chisa. ;) I personally think Chisa and Chimaki might get along with each other really great...
Chisa may be right about nepotism and Takeshi being hard-working, but I still think good intentions and being competent don't excuse mass murder. I really wanna to learn more about Takeshi's, Miho's and Kaname's past - just how did they end up this ruthless? I mean, the three of them still were students. Just how come Takeshi was able to kill with his own hands this easily? Which environment did he grow up in, I wonder?
Well, this was quite a heart-lightening chapter with a really beautiful ending. Loved the picture of the three girls holding each other's hands as they swear to challenge the New World together, side by side. SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! candy:) I really hope once it's published in English, the manga will be printed not only in usual tankobon size but at least with a height of something around ca. 30cm and width of 20cm, then the pictures will come out really beautifully. The usual manga size ist just too little for those great drawings...what do you guys think about this idea?
So they can get prepared for the return to Summer A base finally. Lucky this underground place had no dangers inside (although I think they could have foreseen that without a freezer the seeds wouldn't outlive this long time... was it really a Seeders' shelter...?) Hana was really courageous, going inside despite all her fears for the sake of her friends. :smug: I also liked it how Chisa and Fujiko followed her and the three of them united their strength. Nice!
The only things that have me worrying for now are the weird rashes and this mysterious wind.... and did they remember to close the storage room doors properly...?
Thank you very much as always, scanlation team!!! But, jeez, Dragonator... please don't spoil us too much!! If that last paragraph was a hint to what's gonna happen from now on, I wish I had not read your comment - I wanna be completely surprised by the development of each chapter one by one. Well, what's done is done, but while I sincerely enjoy your comments, please leave out any spoilery things, alright..? ;)
Lg, Ysaye
Re: Omen, eh?
Well actually, they weren't a mafia-like family, just a very rich, prestigious and important family in Japan (especially politically). The 'Don of the Political World' is just a nickname. xD We all knew she was an 'ojou-sama' going from the beginning how she was trained to be meek and obedient, but intelligent, refined and skilled in various areas of fine arts. And if you recall, Kaname mentioned that her family, the Taiami family was the only other political family (or governmental faction) that was involved in the 7 Seeds Project besides his own family (the Mozunoto family).
Well Kaname's past has been touched upon, it was evidently horrendous seeing he was but a mere child at the time when his parents were brutally killed before his eyes and he was forced to survive in the wilderness for several days if not weeks on his own (he was still only a child when he was looking after Summer A at the beginning after all). As for Takashi, I have no idea about that...but people can become desensitised to the idea of killing (and I suspect with all his martial arts training and survival skills he may have been in the army once upon a time?). Like when you kill people in a war, or a riot, or when scientists did it in the name of science... Perhaps he simply came to terms with the idea that people would have to be sacrificed for the greater good. I mean if you believe that all of humanity will perish in your lifetime anyway, and if you yourself are prepared to die, then maybe the value of human life diminishes...? What's a few hundred people, when billions will die? If you can save a few dozen, maybe that's all that matters? I'm not trying to validate the fact that they DID murder people, but I'd like to think that they didn't do it out of enjoyment or because they were just being careless. Whatever the reason, I don't hate them for their actions, I think they were wrong but I can see where they were coming from, some aspects of it anyway. ^^;;
I highly doubt it was a shelter. I think it was more a research facility if you ask me (a relic of the past), going by the way it looks. Probably wasn't intended for the Seeders at all. That's why it was just a chiller/refrigerator for the mushrooms/seeds, and why there was no backup power supply or why it wasn't sealed up hermetically like the other supplies shelters.
Just so you know, Dragonator hasn't actually read ahead or anything (I don't think so, anyway, unless he's looked at the raws, but I doubt it because he doesn't like spoilers either...). I believe what he said was merely a guess as to what he think will happen. I know what is going to happen but I won't say whether his theory is correct or not. XP In any case, there's always the possibility of spoilers in the comments, hidden or not, so you should always only read things if you're prepared for possible spoilers. Sometimes I slip a spoiler in sneakily too. xDDDD
Re: Omen, eh?
Re: Omen, eh?
That last paragraph was simply an independent extrapolation of the possible outcome of the events depicted in the chapter, while considering real life facts about fungal spores. Fungal spores can be amazingly long lived if stored properly and can explode into full bloom in a matter of, sometimes, minutes, if exposed to the proper conditions, even after decades or centuries of dormancy.
Reintroducing any species to an ecosystem that has evolved independently for long enough to have drifted far enough from its original balance can lead to disastrous consequences. Look at rabbits and foxes in Australia for one such example. Or, in the case of plants, at weeds in any crop.
As for what's going to happen from now on, I have no idea. I'm ashamed to say my study of the Japanese language has stalled recently due to offline issues so "reading ahead" is literally impossible for me, much to my disappointment.
I will not apologize if my predictions turn out to be correct but I am sorry I didn't make the fact that they are just pure conjecture more clear. I will do so in the future.
Re: Omen, eh?
(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 10:07 am (UTC)(link)SO looking forward to the next chapter already... Even before reading your comment, I also suspected that something bad might happen because the three probably forgot to close the doors again behind them...
Well, let's wait and see...I bet Tamura-sama will always find a way to surprise every last one of us.

I love reading about these girls; they really lift my spirits! OMG, Fujiko's imaginations of what Ban-chan might look like make me laugh every time XD I still can't wait until they meet (hopefully).
Man, Hana's got guts. She's scared (and who wouldn't be?), but she still climbs down and starts exploring, even though any number of things could have happened to her. And then Chisa and Fujiko came after her, and I was all ^__^ ^__^ ^__^ They're such wonderful friends :D
Chisa rocks in this chapter. And yeah, like you, I've always assumed that all of them were chosen based on money/connections anyways. It's how the world works. In a way, I actually think how they chose team summer A is the least biased. After all, there were around 100 contenders at first, I think, and they were chosen or not as part of the final seven based on their own achievements, you know?
And I've never disliked Takashi-sensei. I don't think he was a cruel person at all, and he did give his entire life up to the hope that his daughter would survive in the future. I can't see anything wrong with that. Do I agree with what they did to summer A? Of course not. But that doesn't make all of the teachers bad people themselves. Not including Unami, of course DX
Thanks for the chapter!

Ahhh I hope they meet too, but I'm sure they will! I feel like everyone would've met everyone (if they don't die first...) by the end. :3 And lol, it makes me giggle every time too! Fujiko is such a laugh. xD
Yesss!! I loved it when the other two appeared too! Especially when Chisa was all like 'we're go out together'. XDDD Their friendship is perfect! <3
Hmm, actually Summer B might be the least biased choice, I don't imagine them having any relation to really rich or powerful people, unless they were distant relatives or something (besides Arashi, Hotaru and Mozu of course). Like Chisa said, even though there were over 100 kids in the institute, how were they selected in the first place? I remember reading that they were chosen for their genetic superiority (by artificial insemination? I'm not really sure...I need to go back and read those volumes to see if it was ever divulged), it could be that they screened sperm and egg banks to find the genetically superior ones, or it could be that they used the sperm from genetically superior members of the project. It's all very shady, so who knows how biased it was! XD Of course in the end it, those with the most skill (or the most luck) were the ones who survived (because seriously, Mayu was probably a better candidate than Koruri XP).
I don't think it was only his daughter, I think he was thinking of the entire 7 Seeds project in general. Takashi said so to that minister that he wasn't working for the government but for the future of Japan and the children who were sent to save it. Ango and Ryo were amongst the ones he thought of before he died, besides Hana. ^^;; Lol yeah, I agree that Unami was probably the only one I don't empathise with...he was just a jerk. =_= Though I have met people who do take his side too! Maybe he had some sort of redeeming feature I didn't catch... XD

(Anonymous) 2012-09-25 02:49 am (UTC)(link)Thank you and the team once again for this brilliant chapter! I'm curious as to how many chapters are out in Japanese. Haha well, can't wait for the next one XD

Right now there are 123 chapters out in Japan, but in a few days, the 124th chapter will be released. :) We're a bit behind still, 10 chapters, but we're catching up slowly but surely! ^_^ Our scanner subscribed to the Flowers magazine quite some time ago, so we have the chapters that haven't been complied into tanks yet too! :D
Artbooks!!
Re: Artbooks!!
Re: Artbooks!!
I was under the impression that there was one artbook already.
Wow! xD Basara/7 Seeds - i would expect the book to be substantial, especially because it comes along an anniversary edition.
Eh! I wish that i could get my hands on it.
Will have to think upon some options to find it....
Re: Artbooks!!
You could easily purchase it online because there are a few Japanese online bookstores that ship overseas like CDJapan, Neowing, Honto, Amazon.jp, Yeasia etc. Or if you live in a place that has a Kinokuniya or indie Japanese bookstore you could probably preorder it through them. ^^
